The RFBR Marathon Relay – Mile 6 #rfbr26

Mile 6

Tansy ran the mile in Royton, Oldham and told us a little about her mile:

“I ran up the hill to “The Summit” on Rochdale Road and back down Fir Lane looking at the fantastic view of Manchester in the distance”

Double points for the hill!

Last year I found a lump in my throat, It was just there, quite large as I felt my neck whilst sat in the bathroom, I was shocked that I hadn’t ever noticed it before, I went to see my GP the next day who very quickly referred me to an ENT specialist. Within 4 weeks “lump”was removed with 1/2 my thyroid & yes it was thyroid cancer, back to the operating table for complete thyroidectomy just to make sure it hadn’t spread to the other half of my thyroid gland. I bought “Run Fat Bitch Run” whilst recovering & made a pact with myself to get fit, really fit, so I choose to run. With encouragement of one particular friend & my husband I did a crazy thing and entered the Bupa Manchester 10K to raise money for The Christie Charity. I had no choice now, I went to bed early every night for a whole week just so I could finish the book as I only had 9 weeks to get fit. I found it absolutely soul destroying the first week, I could barely run for more than 5 minutes without thinking I was about to pass out, I thought theres no way on earth I could run 10k, But I didn’t give up, I kept referring back to the book for motivation and help. Amazingly within 4 weeks I was running just over 3 miles. I managed to Run the whole 10k (slow and steady!!) without having to walk any of it and the sense of achievement is amazing. Having reached a certain level of fitness, all be it low, I now have the drive and motivation to keep going.

The Grit Doctor says:

Tansy, a veritable model of grit and determination.  You should be incredibly proud of yourself.
